IWS Charlottetown Leaders (City and Senior leaders)
Kristel Cavazos - City Leader
Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. I am an International Medical degree holder, with experience in both family medicine and pharmaceutical research. Spent 2 years assisting in bioequivalence and clinical trials then 2 more years as a Drug Safety Officer, and medical recruiter for pharmacovigilance studies, before deciding to make the great move to Charlottetown, PEI, in 2018. It has been a tough journey, and I am still trying to find my path in Canada but enjoying the road in the meantime. I am currently a Director of Care in a community care facility for seniors, and loving every second spent with them. Wife and mom of a little girl who dreams to be a scientist one day. In my free time, I am an amateur baker and chef, I practice yoga and look after my plants.
Shanda Polonio - Senior Leader (Member of IWS NLB)
Originally from Nicaragua, moved to Charlottetown, PEl in 2014. Undergrad in plant science and master in plant Biotechnology, both from Taiwan. I met my husband there and moved to Canada. I am a mom to a 5 year old boy and a little girl (due February). I speak a total of 5 languages and I am currently a lab technician in Bioscience Technology at Holland College since 2015. My responsibilities include teaching courses, research, preparation and execution of labs with the students. Being an IWS leader has been satisfying as I get to interact with extraordinary women from all over the world and brain storm on ways to make the transition into the Canadian environment smoother. We are here for each other.
